"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another". Prov. 27:17
|
Approximately 3,000 years ago a real man-to-man talk took place between a father and his son. It was one of those talks that don’t happen very often in a man’s life but it left an imprint in the memory of the son forever after. “As David’s time to die drew near, he charged Solomon his son, saying, David could not have imagined the legacy that those Spirit-wrought words would carry in the life of his son Solomon or in the generations that would follow. Solomon did not forget the admonition of his father and passed it on to his sons. “Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father, and give attention that you may gain understanding…When I was a son to my father, tender and the only son in the sight of my mother, then he taught me and said to me, ‘Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live” (Prov. 4:1, 3-4). Today Christian men need to hear and heed the call of God toward biblical manhood. Worldly ambition, feminist propaganda, and personal laziness are some of the things that have contributed to the decline of the man of God in the Church and in the home. In order to obey the charge to walk in the ways of the LORD, this generation of men must recapture a vision of God that is worthy of His glorious Name, a vision of masculinity that is free from the fetters of cultural feminism, a vision of the gospel as the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, and a vision of discipleship as a commitment to follow Christ with a tenacity that is unflinching in the face of sacrifice and unhesitating in the face of hardship. The Church of Jesus Christ is the fellowship of the redeemed and because this is God’s design, Faith Community Church seeks to exhort and equip Christian men toward the high calling in Christ Jesus. Join with us, knowing that just as “iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” (Prov. 27:17). Men have opportunity to "sharpen" one another at Men's Retreats, small group studies, periodic outings, and service opportunities. Topics discussed are geared to help our men to be biblical sons, husbands, fathers, etc. Check the church calendar for Men's Ministry activities. |
